McAllister

The McCallister family has deep roots in Onslow County, with a history connected to the Hadnot Point community long before the creation of Camp Lejeune.

This family history was researched and originally shared on Ancestry on July 29, 2012, by Jennen, whose biological grandfather is Henry J. McAllister. Her research helped preserve the names, stories, and history passed down through the McCallister family.

Her research traces the family back to George McAllister and his descendants William McAllister, Robert “Bob” McAllister, and Henry McAllister. It also documents connections to the Hunter, Washington, and Gibbs families, along with the children of Robert and Carrie McAllister: Robert, Linston, Rosa Anna, Henry, George, Lee, Lee Ann, and Powhatan.

The story tells of approximately 171 acres of land owned by William, Robert, and Henry in the Hadnot Point community, including waterfront property. It also remembers the Hadnot Point Burial Society and the families who lost their homes, land, and burial grounds when the government acquired Hadnot Point for the development of Camp Lejeune in the early 1940s.

Today, I am continuing the search to uncover more of the McCallister story and understand the connections between Hadnot Point, Camp Lejeune, Kellumtown, and the families who lived on this land before the base was established.
